The Big Apple never fails to impress!
I am posting this from New York City where I am stranded….
One of the most exciting event in my career was set to take place in New York on October 30th where I was invited to cook some desserts for a very special event. It was planned to have chefs from the four corners of the world flown in to participate and it was set to be a stunning event with loads of great guest, until an unexpected guest showed up, uninvited and despite any effort to keep her away, Sandy showed up!
Hurricane Sandy was luring a few days before the event and made sure to make its landfall right on the day the event was planned. And since I was already here, I’ve got stranded in my hotel room for these few days… The State of Emergency is in place and everything is clamped down…. everything? except maybe the crane on the One57 building hanging down 90 floors over the street. With guts winds reaching a near 150km/h, everything is potentially dangerous as all sort of objects are flying around.
Sandy took over 60 lives in the NY area; my deepest thoughts are with their families and friends.
With more than 10’000 flights cancelled so far, I was really hoping to be able to catch my flight scheduled mid-week, but no luck – the priority was to stay safe and sound. Every public transportation was shut down and it was therefore impossible to move in the city. Airports and subway flooded all around town! I could finally get a flight back scheduled for coming Saturday – fingers crossed! Until then, I will try to visit friends and places in the Big apple!
